Purposeful Living

Galileo had his stars, Jane Austen her books. Einstein had his theories and Gisele has her looks. How often I ponder my life and wonder if I am living to my fullest potential, if I've yet found that great purpose by which my life will be defined. As I studied last night I began to realize that life is not so much defined by one grand and glorious purpose but rather by living everyday on purpose. Sometimes I'm so busy looking for my big purpose in life and forget to focus on and cultivate those daily beliefs and convictions by which I live my life. Living on purpose means choosing the influences that shape my convictions for they will be the same which shape my marriage and my children.

Only a mother can see through the earthly trappings of the physical and gaze in wonder at the transforming work that is being wrought in her children. Most days pass in unglorified monotony and yet each evening the goodnight kiss brings a moment of reflection at the day that has been accomplished and the growth that has been gotten in these young lives. Sometimes it is so simple as learning to spell her name, sometimes as precious as seeing him memorize his first Bible verse. Somedays it seems all that is accomplished is a small change in attitude, teaching a young girl to be content in all things, to have joy no matter her circumstance. Yet each day holds within itself so much opportunity for change and growth, far too many to overlook or make little of. For a life is measured by days and it is for those days that I live...one day at a time to influence and shape a child's life, ever mindful of the Potter who is yet at work molding and shaping my own. As a mother, I would desire no greater calling - to be a part of fashioning my dear children into angelic beings, or greater yet...into the image of God Himself!

Definitions from a 5 year old

Through the mouths of babes...

Motherhood is the most rewarding endeavor I've ever fully engaged myself in. It is full of joys and blessings and, as you'll experience in this entry, sometimes is so hilarious you can't stop your own giggles for the joys of your child!

I was lying in bed sick this morning and my daughter Eliana was taking great care of me. Part of that care was reading to me from a picture dictionary and giving me the meaning that came first to her creative mind.

desk: where papas work to make sure their kids are well feeded

coffee: a drink that Indian people drink (her Ammachi and Tha Tha are East Indian and guess what? drink coffee!)

girls: they are smart. sometimes they are naughty and sometimes they are happy.

apples: sometimes there are worms inside and they try to get satan into your heart (a combination of Snow White and the Garden of Eden, perhaps?!)

cowgirls: girls who take care of cows, like little farmers.

gorilla: never buy one

grasshoppers: insects that jump. God sent them to kill bad people. Sometimes people are sad because they don't have red blood to paint and their children die. Like in Prince of Egypt.
